President’s Message: Spring 2025

March/April

Meg Miller 2024-2025 WAML President

Hello Everyone,

I hope the winter months have been providing you with the space to slow down, rest and reflect a little. Do those of you who live in warmer climates do this in February too? Or is it more of a thing for those of us who live in places that go into deep freeze stretches of -30 or more?

Over the past several months the members of the Executive Board and others have been working to:

  • Plan the 2025 conference in Moscow, ID
  • Establish Ad Hoc Committees to review IB publishing workflows and update the WAML code of conduct
  • Transition the WAML list from UW hosting to being self-hosted
  • Add links to Conference Proceedings to the WAML website
  • Updated conference manual
  • Streamline digital housekeeping processes (email accounts, platforms etc)

This cycle, the Executive Board and other members will be focusing on the following initiatives to serve you further:

  • Assessing our engagement with different social media platforms (many thanks to those who responded to the survey)
  • Discussing the principal region and how it intersects with our current membership/ bylaws
  • Exploring the place of disaster relief in who we are as a small non-profit association

I’d like to take space here to recognize the importance of inclusion and diversity within our association. It’s essential that we create environments that reflect the diverse communities we serve. Every voice matters, and together, we can ensure that our profession remain places of opportunity for everyone. In the coming weeks, you will see the call come out for the WAML Diversity and Early Career Librarian Scholarships- please share as you see fit.

Together over the years, you have built something truly special— a community where ideas are shared, support is given freely, and our collective goals move us forward. Every one of you plays an important role in shaping this organization, and for that, I appreciate you all.

Take care of yourselves,

Meg
