Presidents Message: Spring 2023
March/April
By Katherine Strickland

Here in Texas, we’re enjoying our short but vibrant Spring, a season of change and new possibilities. So, while change is the only constant, it can often lead us back to the familiar.
Evan Thornberry will be hosting our first in-person conference since 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia, between August 9-12, 2023. The call for submissions are underway, deadline is Friday, April, 28th. Please note: presenters are expected to attend the conference in-person, as there will not be an option to present virtually.
We hope you can make it to Vancouver, but if you cannot, there will be a virtual component. Please visit the WAML 2023 webpage for more information.
We are gearing up for elections. Nominations are open for officers on the 2023-24 Executive Board. We are seeking a secretary and vice-president/president-elect. Please, nominate yourself or someone else, and send your selections to our 2023 nominating committee, Kim Durante, Heather Ross, and Evan Thornberry, by Friday, April 21st.
Laura Shelley has retired as the Information Bulleting (IB) indexer. During her time working with WAML, she indexed over fifty years of the IB. We are grateful to her for creating an invaluable tool for map librarianship and research. For more detail about this project, visit Ken Rockwell’s IB Index introduction. Thank you, Laura.
On the theme of change, this is my last “President’s Message” for the Information Bulletin. It has been a pleasure to serve as president on the 2022-23 Executive Board. I want to thank Past President, Evan Thornberry and Secretary, Rebecca Seifried, who are ending their terms, and Treasury, Bruce Godfrey and Vice President/President-Elect, Jessica Brenner, for all the help and support they have given me during my tenure. I am excited to serve as Past President with Jessica at the helm.
Thanks,
Katherine Strickland
