It might be interesting to readers of the WAML Information Bulletin to know the names of our Subscribers during the period 1972 thru 1975 and our Exchange of Publications Members during the period 1970 thru 1975. I discovered an old card file among my personal archive, containing names, addresses, and payment information for Individual Members, Associate Members, Institutional Members, Exchange of Publications, and Subscribers. I have transcribed the list of Subscribers.
As some readers will know, I was the Founding President of WAML (1967-1968), and after my term expires, I became the Treasurer of WAML (1969-70 through 1988-1989), and Editor of the Information Bulletin (1971-1984) — and its Subscription Manager (for lack of a better term) during those years as Treasurer.
We had a total of 142 subscribers, plus two-copies each to two of the subscribers, for a total of 144 issues being mailed — Worldwide! — and that’s just Subscribers!
The Subscriber numbers fluctuated between those years, from a high of 144 in November 1975 to a low of 63 in June 1973. These numbers reflect, in part, due to the subscription payments not arriving in a timely manner. The highest totals by category, during the year shown, are as follows, for a total of 331:
- Individual Members: 95 [May 1974]
- Associate Members: 53 [Nov. 1975]
- Institutional Members: 28 [Nov. 1975]
- Exchange of Publications: 11 [Nov. 1975]
- Subscribers to the IB: 144 [Nov. 1975]
I know the Information Bulletin is still popular and savored by those who are collectors and active in the professions, but a look back 50 years brings memories that I cherish. I congratulate the current leadership of WAML, and salute you for keeping alive a dream that we few founders had in 1967 when we came together to create an organization that would serve the needs we felt were unavailable to us at the time. I am constantly in awe when I read every issue of the Information Bulletin, and realize that its value is still serving that long-felt need.
