- Key highlights so far:
- -Most people say we should leave Twitter and Facebook. A good point was to keep them but no longer post on them so if people find us there they can follow us to the appropriate site(s)
- -over 50% of people surveyed use LinkedIn and Instagram.
- -over 50% of surveyed heard of WAML through word of mouth
- -When given the choice to elaborate on where we should pivot, the most common was Bluesky. Second was linkedin, with mention of a newsletter at least once
- Look under Zoe’s bullet
- Zoe Dilles (WAML Archivist)
- (Zoe providing an update for sam) Institution-wide conversation about ethics of social media(sm). Not everyone here works at an academic institution. Stanford sm users group. Stanford libraries will not continue to use X but maintain their names. Stanford libraries now use Bluesky. Branner Earth Science Library maintains an instagram page and may start a Bluesky over the summer.Linkedin business accounts are more the norm, as not all professional groups are represented on LinkedIn. No social media platform is morally neutral. Important questions to consider: is it useful, are people using it, do we want to maintain those connections? Before we leave or start anything–save our name spaces. What redirects and links do we want to leave for people? Should we look at substacks, blogs, newsletters or other, lesser known platforms like Reddit, wikimedia, and maintaining discord servers? A possibility for actual, community-based opportunities. Happy to talk or ask questions about this! Zoe is not an expert, but is still learning and sharing information about this ongoing topic.
