President’s Message: Winter 2025
November/December
By Cheyenne Stradinger

Greetings, all! It’s been a few weeks since we’ve come back from the 2025 Western Association of Map Libraries annual conference in Moscow, Idaho. I always look forward to the conference and learn so much each time while having such an enjoyable experience. Many thanks to Bruce Godfrey for hosting us and planning such wonderful local events and activities. We had 47 people registered and 19 presentations and workshops. We also had an amazing field trip with the University of Idaho Experimental Forest. It was quite the experience!
Hopefully, you were also able to fill out the survey on the 2025 conference. This helps us with future conference planning to see what you all prefer and to provide the best experience possible. For instance, according to the survey results, everyone loves a free breakfast!
I’m very much looking forward to Denver for the conference next year! That’s right – for those of you unable to attend the WAML Business Meeting, we officially announced that the 2026 WAML conference will be in Denver, CO, on October 7th–10th. Sierra Laddusaw (current WAML vice president) and Craig Haggit are the planners for next year, and I’m so excited to see what they have planned for us.
The conference also brought up some things that need to be worked on. There’s a group working on figuring out a central location for WAML photographs. Hopefully, we’ll have that figured out soon so that our members have access to our photos, including this group photo from Moscow. We’ll also be putting together an ad hoc group to deal with the MAGIRT Online Guide to U.S. Map Collections, as well as sending out a poll regarding events and locations outside of our WAML principal region. Stay tuned for these updates.
